”Halmstad is Always Home” – Gustav Jönne Ahead of Final4 in Halmstad
In just one week, Halmstad will once again welcome a top-tier national sports event: Final4 in the ATG Swedish Cup. On February 7-8, 2025, the four best men’s handball teams will compete for the ultimate victory at Halmstad Arena.
A Hometown Hero Returns
Gustav Jönne, raised in Halmstad Handbollspojkar (Halmstad Handball) and HK Drott, considers Halmstad more than just a city – it’s home.
”Halmstad is always home. This is where I grew up and where my handball career began. I lived here until I finished high school, and every time I return, it feels special,” Gustav shares.
Memories and Motivations
Gustav has numerous memories from cups, beach handball, and his debut in HK Drott’s A-team. Now, returning to Halmstad for Final4 is something he’s looking forward to.
”It feels great that people I know will be in the stands cheering. That gives me an extra boost.”
Personal Connection to Halmstad
For Gustav, Grötvik holds a special place in his heart. ”I grew up there and spent many summers by the sea. It’s a place I would gladly take with me to Alingsås if I could.”
Advice to Young Athletes
Reflecting on his journey, Gustav offers wisdom to young athletes:
”If I could give my 15-year-old self, and other 15-year-olds, advice, I would suggest not stressing about physical development. I received great support from my coach Marcus at Aspero Sports High School, who taught me to develop at my own pace.”
Future Dreams
Looking ahead, Gustav has ambitious plans:
”The future is exciting. My goal is to take more steps. Getting a chance to play abroad is absolutely a dream, an adventure I would love to try. But for me, Halmstad will always be on the world map. It’s my home base, and it always will be.”
